Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, announced that the Lagos State House of Assembly has adopted the recommendations of an 11‑member ad hoc committee investigating the alleged misconduct of executives of the Gateway Zone Community Development Association (CDA) in Magodo GRA Phase 1. The adoption followed a resolution on a petition passed by the House at its plenary session on 24 June 2021, which targeted Oyebode Ojomu, purportedly acting for the CDA; General Manager of the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Adenrele Oni; and other individuals.

According to a statement released to the press on Monday, the committee’s recommendations were presented to the House by its chairman, Sanai Agunbiade. He explained that the investigation was conducted to ensure implementation of the House’s resolution. The committee found that a wet parcel of land in Magodo, which had been earmarked for government acquisition in 1969, had been excised, and compensation had been paid to the families whose lands were not excised. The committee also noted that the land in question lacked approval for drainage channelisation, including drainage alignment and setback, and therefore saw no need to seek layout approval from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for renewal.

In his submission, lawmaker Sa’ad Olumoh lamented that the Magodo area had been in crisis, resulting in recent court judgments. He expressed optimism that the committee’s recommendations would bring peace to the landowners. Olumoh called for the punishment of erring officials and warned NTDA officials to exercise caution when delegating duties.
