Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has downplayed his sole responsibility for bringing Kai Havertz to the Emirates, emphasizing a collaborative approach within the club.
Speaking to the media, Arteta acknowledged the involvement of sporting director Edu and other senior figures in the £65 million summer transfer from Chelsea. While Havertz initially faced an adjustment period, he has blossomed into a key contributor, notching 11 goals and 5 assists.
“The decision to sign Kai wasn’t solely mine,” Arteta clarified. “We had a strong alignment with the club’s vision, and from a sporting perspective, we made a collective recommendation. It involved a lot of people, and ultimately, we needed the ownership’s backing to make it happen.”
This statement highlights a shift in transfer strategy at Arsenal, with Arteta working alongside the sporting director and ownership to identify and acquire talent. Havertz’s success exemplifies the potential of this collaborative approach.
