The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), visited Katsina on Monday and announced that the All Progressives Congress would mobilise its entire electoral machinery to secure the victory of its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 election. During a courtesy call at the Emir’s palace, Buhari appealed to the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Usman, and the Emirate Council to rally behind Tinubu’s campaign, stating, “We will work for his victory at the polls.” The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, released a statement titled “President Buhari presents Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to Katsina Emirate Council, urges full support for victory at polls,” confirming the President’s remarks.

While presenting the candidate, Buhari said, “We are here to present our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Asiwaju has been chosen by our party, and we are fully in support of his candidature, and we will work for his victory at the polls.” He also expressed condolences to the leaders and citizens of Katsina following the recent terrorist attack on vigilantes in Bakori Local Government Area, which claimed at least 41 lives. Buhari pledged that his administration would continue to heed the counsel of experts, traditional rulers, and political leaders on economic matters and adopt best practices to protect citizens’ interests.

The APC presidential campaign rally in Katsina State was scaled down to a prayer session in response to the Bakori attack. Although President Buhari and several participants attended, the event at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium was conducted in a sober atmosphere. In his opening speech, Buhari mourned the victims of banditry, urging the people of Katsina to remain courageous and hopeful in the fight against terror.

Tinubu, addressing the rally, praised those who attended despite the tragic circumstances and assured the Katsina electorate that his administration would work tirelessly to eliminate banditry. He declared, “We will definitely deal with them. They will not go scot‑free. Whether they derive some moment of joy or satisfaction, we are courageous, we are strong, we believe in Allah and we will defeat them. They are evil. We will eliminate them.” He warned participants not to allow the “Poverty Development Party” to return to power and donated N100 million to the families of the victims. Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari also urged Nigerians not to trust the PDP with power again.
