Former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration for implementing the cybersecurity levy on Nigerians, describing it as a move to exploit an already struggling economy instead of fostering its recovery and growth.

Obi criticized the government for introducing policies that not only impoverish citizens but also weaken the country’s economic competitiveness. He argued that imposing a cybersecurity levy on Nigerians would further deplete their capital, already ravaged by the effects of Naira devaluation and high inflation rates.

Expressing disbelief, Obi questioned the transformation of the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) into a revenue collection center, particularly receiving returns from a specific tax as stipulated in the new cybersecurity law.

He emphasized that such policies not only burden citizens but also hinder economic progress. Instead of reducing taxes to alleviate inflation, the government is introducing new levies, exacerbating the financial strain on Nigerians.

Obi’s critique underscores growing concerns about the economic impact of government policies, particularly on the already vulnerable population. As debates on taxation and economic management continue, the government faces mounting pressure to address these concerns and prioritize policies that foster sustainable growth and prosperity.
