Event Industry Laments Naira Abuse Crackdown

Event vendors and planners express concerns over the impact of the crackdown on naira abuse, citing a loss of fun and glamour at social functions.

According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified efforts to curb the abuse of naira notes. Notably, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was sentenced to six months imprisonment for mutilating naira notes, while socialite Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, faces similar charges.

Speaking on behalf of Ogun event vendors, Bola Ayedun-Solate acknowledged the ban’s effect on the industry but noted the adaptation of alternatives to traditional naira spraying. Ayedun-Solate commended the EFCC’s measures to protect the currency, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to display affluence responsibly.

While acknowledging the loss of glamour, Ayedun-Solate urged vendors to embrace alternative options like money bags and printed vouchers instead of abusing naira notes at events.
