Kumasi, Ghana – Ghana boasts the best education system in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to Robin Todd, the Executive Director of Transforming Teaching, Education, & Learning (T-TEL). With over 24 years of experience working with more than 17 Sub-Saharan African countries in the education sector, Todd asserts that Ghana stands out in terms of quality and accessibility.
Todd credits Ghana’s continuous improvement in its education system to the implementation of pragmatic management policies and structures. He highlighted that the country has consistently trained and empowered its teachers through structured programs, providing them with lesson plans, learning materials, and ongoing skills-based coaching. These efforts have positioned Ghana as one of the top educational destinations in Africa.
The endorsement came during the launch of a new manual for teachers by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), with support from T-TEL, in anticipation of the official rollout of the new standard-based curriculum for senior high schools in Ghana. The event took place in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
In an interview with OTEC News reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng, Todd expressed confidence in the transformative potential of the new curriculum. He believes that in the coming years, Ghana will produce students equipped with 21st-century skills, values, and critical thinking abilities necessary to address societal challenges.
He called on all stakeholders, particularly teachers, to ensure the successful implementation of the new curriculum, emphasizing its intended purpose of transforming education in Ghana.
