The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the appointment of Duke Okoro as the pioneer rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Delta State. Okoro, a former director of International Development at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, holds a PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from the University of Benin. He is a fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, the Nigerian Environmental Society, the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, and the Institute of Management Consultants.

The new polytechnic is expected to offer both full‑time and part‑time courses and training across various fields of study. The bill creating the Federal Polytechnic was initiated by Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo‑Agege, an indigene of Orogun, and was passed into law by the National Assembly. Earlier, the deputy senate president commissioned a power substation to provide electricity to the polytechnic and the surrounding community.
