Russia’s Missile and Drone Strikes Ignite Fires and Cause Injuries Across Ukraine

Early Wednesday, Russia launched missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, igniting a fire at an industrial facility, damaging residences, and injuring several people across six regions, according to local authorities.

The Ukrainian military reported intercepting five out of six missiles and all 24 drones launched during the overnight assault. Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s city military administration, confirmed on Telegram that Ukraine’s air defense systems destroyed all airborne threats approaching the capital.

Despite the successful interceptions, debris caused a fire at an industrial facility in the Kyiv region. Over 105 people and 30 pieces of equipment were deployed to extinguish the blaze by Wednesday morning, according to the Kyiv regional governor. The attack injured one resident and caused damage to a private residence, a garage, a gas station, and a storage unit.

In Dnipropetrovsk, the governor reported that three people were injured and nine private residences were damaged. Ukrainian military forces shot down 11 drones over the region during the attack.

Air raid alerts lasted several hours across all of Ukraine, starting shortly after midnight GMT, and included regions bordering NATO-member Poland. The Polish armed forces’ Operational Command reported on social media platform X that Polish and allied aircraft were activated as a precaution, a common measure when Russia launches air attacks on Ukraine’s western regions.
