The Supreme Court of Nigeria dismissed two appeals on Wednesday that had been filed against the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Uba Sani, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The appeals were lodged by Sani Sha’aban, an in‑law of former President Major General Muhammadu Buhari. Sha’aban, a former APC governorship aspirant, later secured the governorship ticket of the Action Democratic Party to contest the 2023 election in the state.
Sule Shu’aibu, the APC’s solicitor and former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Kaduna branch, issued a statement to the press confirming that the apex court had rejected both of Sha’aban’s appeals. He said, “Finally, the two appeals at the instance of Sani Mahmoud Sha’aban against the APC, its gubernatorial candidate Uba Sani, and INEC have both been dismissed this morning, bringing an end to the litigation that started at the Federal High Court, Kaduna Division, seeking to disqualify the APC gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming general election.”
