Taylor Wily, a former sumo wrestler who gained fame for his role as confidential informant Kamekona Tupuola on both “Hawaii Five-0” and “Magnum P.I.,” has died at the age of 56. The news was confirmed by “Hawaii Five-0” executive producer Peter M. Lenkov and KITV 4, based in Honolulu.
Lenkov expressed his heartbreak over Wily’s passing, sharing tributes on Instagram and praising the actor for his charm and comedic skills. Wily was also recognized for his dramatic abilities, with Lenkov noting plans to include him in future projects.
Wily, born Teila Tuli, was a well-known sumo wrestler and the first knockout victim in UFC history before transitioning to acting. He played Kamekona on “Hawaii Five-0” from 2010 to 2020 and continued the role in the reboot of “Magnum P.I.” He also appeared in the 2008 comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”
Wily is survived by his wife, Halona, and their two children. The cause of death remains unknown.
