The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced on Wednesday that it has suspended two additional players as its investigation into match‑fixing continues. Defender Lennox Ogutu and midfielder Alphonce Ndonye of Mathare United are barred from all football‑related activities until the inquiries are concluded, the federation said.
In a letter to Mathare United obtained by AFP, FKF’s integrity department stated that it has received reports alleging the two players’ involvement in match‑fixing practices within Kenyan football. Their suspension follows a series of recent bans that are part of a national probe into betting‑related match‑fixing.
Last month, FKF suspended 14 players and two coaches after receiving a tip‑off about cheating in the national league. Among those suspended in January were six players from Zoo Kericho FC, a club previously found guilty of match‑fixing by FIFA’s integrity unit in 2021 and expelled from the Kenyan Premier League. Additionally, in February 2020, FIFA banned four Kenyan players—one for life—for participating in an “international conspiracy” to fix league matches.
Mathare United currently sit at the bottom of the 18‑team league.
