The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) plan to use the Parks Management Committee, led by Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), for election logistics on February 25 and March 11. In a statement, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, argued that deploying an organization headed by a known All Progressives Congress (APC) member and a key campaign figure for APC standard‑bearer Bola Tinubu would compromise the upcoming general elections.
Onwubiko accused INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Olusegun Agbaje, of acting on behalf of the ruling APC and covertly facilitating a scheme to rig the elections and install a candidate against the will of the Nigerian people. During a meeting of the Inter‑Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security at the INEC office in Lagos, Agbaje explained that the commission would engage MC Oluomo’s team to distribute election materials and personnel on election days. “The commission in Lagos State does not have any option than to use the park management system. We are not dealing with Oluomo, we are dealing with the park managers. Individual people that have vehicles are those we are going to use,” he said.
HURIWA’s Onwubiko condemned the plan as “anti‑democratic,” noting that the organization’s leader has appeared at numerous Tinubu rallies across Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Osun, Ekiti and other states. He called for the immediate redeployment of the Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner to preserve electoral integrity. Additionally, HURIWA demanded that INEC find an alternative to the Central Bank of Nigeria for handling sensitive and non‑sensitive materials, criticizing the current arrangement that places custody in the hands of a known APC member and former presidential aspirant, which he described as “totally wrong.”
