The Niger State Police Command has denied reports of an explosion at the Zungeru Hydro Electric Power Dam in Wushishi Local Government Area on Monday, July 1, 2024.

In a statement issued in Minna, Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun called the reports “untrue,” clarifying that no such incident occurred at the multi-million naira power dam.

Contrary to earlier claims, which suggested that an explosion at the yet-to-be-commissioned hydroelectric power station had injured several workers and damaged facilities, the police have confirmed that these allegations are baseless.

In a statement titled “Fake Report Alert,” Abiodun asserted, “We wish to respond that there is no report of any kind of explosion at Zungeru Dam, as reported by some online media.”

He urged the public to disregard the false reports.

The Zungeru Dam is the fourth dam in Niger State, following the Jebba, Kainji, and Shiroro dams.
