TORONTO, CANADA — WWE icon John Cena has officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition, marking the end of an illustrious career that has spanned over two decades. Cena made the revelation during the WWE Money in the Bank event, held in Toronto.
The 16-time world champion disclosed that he would retire after participating in three major events in 2025: the Royal Rumble, the Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.
Cena, sporting a ‘John Cena Farewell Tour 2025’ shirt, reflected on his long tenure in WWE. “I’ve been in the WWE for over two decades and in that time, I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town, no doubt, but I have also seen true hardship, that’s when no one knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated and hardcore fans stand by your side,” Cena said.
In addition to his farewell tour, Cena expressed his desire to be involved with WWE’s transition of Raw to Netflix in January 2025.
John Cena made his WWE debut in 2002 and quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in professional wrestling. However, since 2018, he has taken on a more part-time role to focus on his burgeoning movie career.
Cena’s retirement will undoubtedly mark the end of an era in WWE, as fans prepare to bid farewell to one of the sport’s most beloved and influential superstars.
