José Peseiro in Talks for Super Eagles Return Amidst Coaching Speculations

José Peseiro has been linked with a possible return as the head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles. The Portuguese coach, who left the position in February after his contract expired, is reportedly in negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take up the role again.

Peseiro, 63, previously led the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. His successor, Finidi George, resigned last month following the NFF’s announcement of its intention to appoint a foreign technical adviser to lead the team.

In addition to the potential return to the Super Eagles, Peseiro was recently associated with a coaching role at South African club Mamelodi Sundowns. Gerald Baloyi, representing Vodia Sports International Management, confirmed that Peseiro is currently in talks with both Sundowns and the Nigerian national team.

“Yes, Vodia Sports International Management offered José Peseiro to Sundowns, though the Nigerian national teams are interested in bringing him to take over again,” Baloyi disclosed to KickOff.

The NFF aims to appoint a new head coach for the Super Eagles before their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya in September, indicating that a decision on Peseiro’s potential reappointment is imminent.
