Labour Party’s Nasarawa Chapter Throws Weight Behind Embattled National Chairman Julius Abure
Nasarawa State Chapter of the Labour Party has declared its unflinching support for the embattled national chairman, Julius Abure, amidst the ongoing crisis rocking the party at the national level. The chapter’s leader, Alexander Ombugu, confirmed this during a press conference in Lafia, following the executive council meeting of the party on Saturday.
According to reports, the LP National Transition Committee, set up by the Nigeria Labour Congress, had withdrawn its support for Abure’s leadership for not following due processes in his emergence as national chairman. However, Ombugu dismissed these reports, saying that the state chapter’s loyalty and commitment to Abure’s leadership remain unwavering.
“It’s unfortunate that some people are against Julius Abure because he’s too good. They’re fighting him because he’s a transparent leader. We love him, and we will continue to stand by him,” Ombugu said.
The Labour Party state chairman also expressed surprise over the National Labour Congress’ decision to withdraw its support for Abure. “It should not be so because Abure has achieved a lot for the Labour Party. They should rather see how to support him to take the party to greater heights, instead of the disagreements which are capable of taking the party backwards,” Ombugu said.
Additionally, the state LP announced its support for the Supreme Court’s judgement granting full autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas in the country. According to Ombugu, this autonomy would enhance democracy at the grassroots level and empower the authorities to make decisions that would positively impact the lives of rural dwellers.
The controversy surrounding Abure’s leadership and the National Labour Congress’ withdrawal of support is a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the Labour Party continues to navigate this crisis, Julius Abure’s fate remains uncertain, with many wondering what lies ahead for the party.
