Paris Olympics Village Welcomes First Inhabitants; Breaks Ground with Low-Carbon Construction
The athletes’ village for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics officially opened its doors, providing a unique and innovative space for sports enthusiasts. The village, located just north of Paris, will serve as a model for low-carbon construction.
A week before the opening ceremony, teams from Australia and Brazil became the first to arrive, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a busy couple of weeks. “We are ready,” assured Augustin Tran Van Chau, deputy head of the village, in an exclusive statement to French media.
What’s revolutionary about this village is the remarkable energy-saving design. Without a need for air-conditioning, temperatures are maintained at a comfortable 6 degrees Celsius lower than the outside temperature in summer. Nonetheless, some delegations have still chosen to have air-conditioning units installed for added relaxation.
Besides the eco-friendly concept, the village showcases cutting-edge technology. State-of-the-art innovations, both innovative and practical, have been meticulously crafted to minimize the carbon footprint during construction.
After hosting a dynamic bunch of Olympians and Paralympians between July 26 and September 8, the apartments will be converted into spacious homes for the public, securing a guarantee for at least one third.
