Military Eliminates 125 Terrorists, Rescues 140 Kidnapped Hostages

The Defence Headquarters has reported that troops eliminated 125 terrorists, apprehended 200 others, and rescued 140 kidnapped hostages in various operations across the country within the last week.

According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the military forces recovered 120 assorted weapons and 1,793 assorted ammunition, including AK47 rifles, locally fabricated guns, dane guns, SMG rifles, pump action guns, and more. Other recovered items include AK47 magazines, a baofeng radio, six vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, mobile phones, and a sum of N2.7 million.

Buba also revealed that the air component conducted an air interdiction on July 12, targeting suspected terrorists in the Katsina State. The operation, which followed intelligence and confirmatory ISR, resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and destruction of their logistics.

Additionally, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East neutralised 52 terrorists, arrested 40 suspects, and rescued 14 kidnapped hostages. Similarly, the troops of Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke in the North Central neutralised 22 insurgents, arrested 38 violent extremists, and rescued 27 kidnapped hostages. In the North West, the troops of Hadarin Daji neutralised 31 terrorists, arrested 21 terrorists, and rescued 30 kidnapped hostages.

Meanwhile, the troops of Operation Whirl Punch conducted offensive operations in various parts of the country, including Kwali Area Council of FCT Abuja, Lokoja, and Adavi LGA of Kogi State.

The military’s efforts have been successful in eliminating terrorists, rescuing hostages, and recovering arms and ammunition. These operations demonstrate the military’s commitment to protecting the country and its citizens from the menace of terrorism.

The Defence Headquarters urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. With continued support from the public, the military remains determined to bring an end to the scourge of terrorism in Nigeria.
