Nigeria’s Parliament Reviews N6.2 Trillion Supplementary Budget

The Nigerian House of Representatives has announced its plan to review a massive supplementary budget of N6.2 trillion, submitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu. The budget, aimed at developing critical infrastructure, education, and healthcare systems, was transmitted on July 17th, 2024.

Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, spoke exclusively to journalists in Abuja about the budget’s details and purpose. Agbese emphasized that the parliament is dedicated to conducting a comprehensive examination of the budget to ensure its utilization aligns with the best interests of Nigerian constituents.

The supplementary budget is divided into two primary components: N3.2 trillion for infrastructure projects and N3 trillion to meet recurrent expenditure requirements necessary for the efficient operation of the Federal Government. According to Agbese, every aspect of the budget proposal will be scrutinized to ensure optimal utilization of resources.

Furthermore, the legislative body plans to engage stakeholders, conduct public hearings, and thoroughly review the executive bill to ensure that every kobo is used wisely. The review process is crucial for the effective allocation of funds, Agbese stressed.
