Breaking News: Nigerian Film Industry Sees Rise in Box Office Earnings

In a stunning turn of events, the Nigerian film industry has witnessed a surge in box office earnings, with several films performing exceptionally well. According to a report published by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the top 10 highest-grossing films at the box office between July 12 and July 18, 2024, have collectively raked in a whopping ₦216.1 million.

Leading the pack is the Nollywood epic crime thriller, Lakatabu, directed by Odunlade Adekola, which grossed ₦22.1 million, placing it in fourth position. Its total gross since its release on June 21, 2024, stands at over ₦156 million.

The second spot is taken by Bad Boys: Ride or Die, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, which made an impressive ₦33.6 million. Following closely is A Quiet Place: Day One, a Hollywood horror sci-fi written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, which took the third spot with ₦30.3 million, bringing its total gross to ₦109.2 million.

Other films that made it to the top 10 include Muri and Ko, directed by Biodun Stephen, which grossed ₦12.3 million, Inside Out 2, distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, which made ₦11.5 million, and Fly Me to the Moon, directed by Greg Berlanti, which took in ₦8.1 million.

The report also highlighted the rising popularity of Nigerian films, with many gaining international recognition and breaking box office records. This development is a significant boost to the local film industry, which has been growing in recent years.
