Imo State and Digital SME Launch Digital Skills Initiative
The Imo State Government in Nigeria has partnered with the European Digital SME Alliance to launch a digital skills development initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s digital economy. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aligns with the Africa-European Union Partnership’s digital development goals and focuses on strengthening both parties’ digital ecosystems.
According to the statement, the freelancing program will connect European companies with digital professionals from Imo State, providing valuable development opportunities. The initiative also includes a mentorship program, linking European businesses with young people in Imo State, offering guidance on digital careers and the knowledge needed to succeed in both national and international markets.
The Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Imo State, Dr Chimezie Amadi, noted that the partnership will foster innovation and entrepreneurship while creating new market opportunities for startups and innovators in Imo State. “This collaborative partnership with the European Digital SME Alliance will open up more opportunities for startups and innovators in Imo State, ultimately improving socio-economic conditions and empowering the local female workforce,” said Amadi.
The European DIGITAL SME Alliance is the largest network of ICT small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe, and this agreement marks another step in its commitment to supporting efforts to establish a productive dialogue with public and private stakeholders.
