Playful Video Sparks Controversy as Critics Target Gen Z Women in the Workplace

A recent video posted by tbh skincare on Instagram and TikTok has become the latest target for critics of Gen Z women in the workplace. The video, part of the popular “Boots and a slicked back bun” trend, features several female employees calling out their qualities, including “Gen Z boss and a mini” and “5’3 and an attitude.”

The video has gained significant attention, with nearly 5.5 million views on Instagram and over 3.5 million views on TikTok. However, once it spread beyond its initial audience, the comments took a turn for the negative. On TikTok, users posted messages like “they should make marketing degrees more expensive” and “this is so millennial core.” The video was also reposted on a platform known for its rampant sexism, with one user captioning it “Is this the longhouse,” a reference to the concept of a woke, matriarchal society popularized in alt-right spaces.

This is not the first time Gen Z women have faced criticism for their workplace antics. Last year, a Gen Z woman’s complaints about working a 9-to-5 job sparked a heated conversation, and before that, project managers working from the pool were also targeted.

The video may have started as a lighthearted trend, but it has quickly taken on a life of its own, highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding the portrayal of Gen Z women in the workplace. As the debate continues to unfold, it’s clear that the line between what’s acceptable and what’s not is still being blurred.
