Idoma Association USA Decry Incessant Killings in Benue State

A socio-cultural group of Benue South Idoma natives based in the United States of America, the Idoma Association USA, has expressed deep concern over the recurring killings in their ancestral communities in Benue State. The group’s President, Dr. Edwin Ochai, lamented that the senseless acts of violence have not only claimed precious lives but also sowed fear and instability among the people.

Ochai emphasized that insecurity is taking a toll on the development of the community, hindering economic prosperity and social progress. He urged the government to address the issue with urgency and seriousness, as a secure environment is essential for building a thriving economy. Investors, both local and foreign, are deterred by the threat of violence and instability, making it challenging to attract investment, create jobs, and drive economic growth.

The association’s president also appealed to Idoma natives living outside the country to invest in the youths back home, emphasizing that it is crucial to engage them meaningfully and provide them with opportunities for education, employment, and personal growth.

The Och’Idoma of Idoma, Elaigwu Odogbo, commended the association for its efforts in promoting the Idoma cultural identity and traditions. He acknowledged the group’s consistency and tenacity in organizing and hosting the Idoma Annual Convention in the United States of America for a record 28 unbroken years.

The royal father also highlighted the negative effects of insecurity on the community, citing the displacement of thousands of people from their homes and the need for financial relief. He expressed gratitude to the association for providing financial assistance to the victims and acknowledged that the home has not left those who have migrated abroad.

In a video message, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr Sam Odeh, reassured that the state government has not neglected the Benue South Senatorial District. He refuted the belief that Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia is biased towards his tribe, affirming that the governor has planned several projects for the district, which will be initiated in the near future.

The Idoma Association USA’s concerns highlight the need for urgent action to address the insecurity crisis in Benue State and ensure a safer environment for the people.
