Disappointing Sequel: Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba Falls Short of Expectations
Netflix’s original thriller, Haseen Dillruba, left a lasting impression on fans worldwide. The film’s complex characters, engaging storyline, and thought-provoking themes made it a standout in the romantic crime thriller genre. When a sequel was announced, anticipation was high, but unfortunately, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba fails to live up to its predecessor’s standards.
The film opens with Rani (Taapsee Pannu) and Rishabh (Vikrant Massey) living in hiding, planning to start a new life abroad. Their toxic relationship is still going strong, with the couple exchanging flirtatious glances and secret meetings. A new character, Abhimanyu, is introduced, who becomes smitten with Rani, unaware of her troubled past. The film’s pacing is painfully slow, with an overstretched screenplay and cringeworthy dialogue.
The sequel’s biggest mistake is its illogical plot, which relies heavily on convenience and stretches credibility. Characters fall in love and get married in the span of three days, and people have fun boating in a crocodile-infested river without any consequences. Even the film’s visual metaphors, while clever, cannot salvage the overall disappointment.
The cast, which includes Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Jimmy Shergill, is severely underutilized. The characters’ lack of depth and development makes it hard to connect with them on an emotional level. The film’s failure to create curiosity and thrills is its biggest downfall, leaving viewers uninvested in the story.
Fans of the original film will be sorely disappointed by Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba’s lack of effort and creativity. The film’s few redeeming moments are brief and fleeting, leaving viewers with a sense of what could have been. New viewers may be able to overlook the film’s flaws, but for those familiar with the original, the disappointment will be too much to bear.
