Nigeria’s Adolescents Face Critical Health Challenges, Experts Gather to Find Solutions

The Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP) has sounded the alarm on the pressing health issues faced by Nigeria’s adolescents, citing high rates of HIV and other infectious diseases, mental health problems, substance abuse, and limited access to reproductive health services. According to the organization’s Chief Executive, Dr. Bolanle Oyeledun, it is imperative that experts come together to address these vulnerabilities and find sustainable solutions.

Adolescence is a critical period of life marked by significant physical, emotional, and social changes. In Nigeria, young people are particularly vulnerable to a range of challenges, including high rates of HIV and other infectious diseases, mental health issues, substance abuse, and limited access to reproductive health services.

To tackle these issues, CIHP is hosting a roundtable discussion focused on identifying strategies to empower adolescents through STEM education, vocational training, and leadership programs. Participants will also explore the role of technology in enhancing health interventions and promoting mental well-being among young people.

The event aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to address the needs of adolescents and young people. The goal is to create concrete action plans and partnerships that can improve the lives of young Nigerians.

With the stakes so high, it is essential that experts, policymakers, and stakeholders come together to find innovative solutions to the complex challenges faced by Nigeria’s adolescents. By working together, they can help empower this critical demographic and ensure a brighter future for all.
