Ukraine Makes Major Gains in Russia’s Kursk Border Region
In a significant development, Ukrainian forces have taken control of 74 settlements in Russia’s Kursk border region, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday. This marks a major advance for Ukraine, which had previously said it controlled 28 settlements in the region.
According to Zelensky, the advance of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region continues despite intense fighting. He also stated that Ukraine has replenished its numbers of Russian prisoners of war (POWs) to exchange for its own troops, and preparation for its next steps is ongoing.
During a video call with military chief Oleksandr Syrsky, Zelensky was shown footage of their conversation. Syrsky reported that Ukrainian troops have advanced by 1 to 3 kilometers in some areas and have taken control of 40 square kilometers of territory in the last day.
Notably, Syrsky added that the situation remains under control despite the high intensity of fighting along the entire front line. This significant gain is a major boost for Ukraine’s military campaign against Russia.
