Colin Kaepernick’s Coaching Career Possibility: A Path to Redemption?

Colin Kaepernick Offered Coaching Gig with LA Chargers, But Will He Take the Field Again?

Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback and civil rights activist, has been offered a coaching gig with the Los Angeles Chargers, his former mentor Jim Harbaugh revealed. However, Kaepernick has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the field as a player.

The offer comes after Kaepernick’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, filed a collusion grievance against NFL owners in 2017, alleging that they conspired to keep him from playing in the league. The case was settled for an undisclosed amount.

Kaepernick’s decision to sit during the national anthem in 2016 sparked widespread controversy and protests among celebrities. However, since then, he has been trying to get back on the field as a player, although it has been widely reported that he has been blackballed.

In 2019, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the league would be working with Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, to amplify social justice initiatives. However, Geragos called the deal “cold-blooded” because it did not include Kaepernick.

Kaepernick has not stopped training and has been busy with other projects, including the Netflix miniseries “Colin in Black & White” and the birth of his first child. He has also created his own book imprint, Kaepernick Publishing.

When asked about the possibility of returning to the field, Kaepernick told Sky Sports, “We’re still training, still pushing. So, hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”

Harbaugh, who coached Kaepernick during his time with the San Francisco 49ers, has never made any qualms about his appreciation for the quarterback. “He’s one of my favorite players that I’ve ever coached,” he said. “Love Colin.”

However, it remains unclear how the NFL would respond to a Kaepernick resurrection in coach form. His potential to influence as a coach would manifest differently than in player mode, challenging his alleged “blackballing” streak.

For now, it seems that Kaepernick is keeping his options open, and only time will tell if he will take the field again.
