Roc Nation’s Shari Bryant Exits as President, Leaving Future Uncertain
Shari Bryant, the Co-President of Roc Nation, has left her post after a five-year tenure. This development comes hot on the heels of the merger between Equity Distribution and Roc Nation’s music distribution wing.
According to Billboard, Equity Distribution was established in 2019 and works with independent artists who want to retain ownership of their masters. The company offers a range of services, including in-house marketing and publishing administration. Notably, they have worked with artists like Mach-Hommy, Tinashe, and brought Jay-Z’s 1996 debut album, Reasonable Doubt, to streaming services in 2019.
All artists currently signed to Roc Nation will shift to the distribution arm of the label, as Bryant’s departure seems to signal a significant change in the company’s leadership.
In a farewell post on Instagram, Bryant wrote, “From where it started (sitting in my cubicle @ RocAFella Records), to now ending my 5 year tenure as Co-President of RocNation Label. It’s bitter sweet, but as I often say, you have to Do It Scared. Onward and upward, and as always…More To Come.”
Rapper Rapsody left a comment under Bryant’s post, expressing her gratitude for being part of the era with Bryant and wishing her well in her future endeavors.
While Bryant hasn’t disclosed her next move, her position may become obsolete due to the merger. The music industry will be keeping a close eye on Bryant’s future and the impact of the merger on Roc Nation’s operations.
