President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will today champion the campaign of the All Progressives Congress presidential standard‑bearer, Bola Tinubu, in Abuja. The APC candidate is holding two rallies on Saturday, one in Kebbi and another in the Federal Capital Territory. According to Festus Keyamo, chief spokesman of the APC presidential campaign council, the Kebbi rally is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while the Abuja campaign will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Keyamo added that he is unsure whether the President will attend the Kebbi rally, but confirmed that Buhari will definitely campaign with Tinubu in Abuja.
On Sunday, Tinubu will hold a town‑hall engagement with entrepreneurs and other professionals in the FCT, and on Tuesday he will travel to Imo State to continue his campaign, Keyamo said. This development follows Tinubu’s meeting with the President at the State House last night. After cancelling a “Meet the Mentor” dinner organized by the Progressives Sisters Network at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu attended a closed‑door meeting with Buhari at 9:45 p.m. He explained to his audience that the President had summoned him, stating, “I have a superior appointment. Late yesterday, the President called and said I should be at his place by 9:45 p.m. Friday evening. What do I do? Cancel it and disobey my President? It is a command, more or less. See me at 9:45 p.m.” He emphasized that he could not boycott or downgrade the event, noting the need to seek understanding and the presence of a vice‑presidential candidate as a “pair for races like this.” Although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, sources suggest it likely involved logistics and last‑minute campaign strategies.
