Arsenal Legend Tips Trossard to Displace Martinelli in Attack
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has predicted that Leandro Trossard will eventually displace Gabriel Martinelli in the team’s attack. Wright’s comments come after Trossard’s impressive performance in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Trossard, who came off the bench in the 65th minute, scored the opening goal with his first touch and was also involved in Thomas Partey’s second goal. The Belgian’s performance has sparked speculation that he could soon become a regular starter for the north London outfit.
Wright, a former Arsenal striker, believes that Trossard’s clinical finishing and movement off the ball make him a strong contender to start ahead of Martinelli. “We’re talking about someone who is our best finisher, our most clinical finisher with his chances and someone who comes on and affects games,” Wright said in an interview with Premier League Productions.
While Martinelli has pace and can be dangerous when in form, Wright argues that Trossard’s appreciation for the rest of the team and his ability to create chances make him a more well-rounded player. “We saw him come on and score and create a goal. He is someone you look at now and say, yeah, he’s saying, ‘What do I need to do to start?'” Wright added.
The result of the match puts Arsenal joint-top in the table, behind Brighton and champions Manchester City. With Trossard’s form and Wright’s endorsement, it will be interesting to see if he can continue to make an impact from the bench and potentially earn a starting spot ahead of Martinelli.
