Sporting Lagos Shakes Up Front Office, Parts Ways with Coach and 25 Players

In a surprising move, Nigerian National League (NNL) side Sporting Lagos has terminated the contract of its head coach, Abdullahi Biffo, just months after appointing him to replace Paul Offor in the second half of last season.

The 56-year-old Biffo, who previously managed Kwara United, failed to steer the club clear of relegation from the top-tier Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). His departure marks the beginning of a new era for the Lagos-based team, as they embark on a careful evaluation process to appoint a new long-term head coach.

However, the biggest overhaul of the club’s roster has yet to unfold. A staggering 25 players have parted ways with Sporting Lagos, with some of the most notable departures including former NPFL top scorer Junior Lokosa, Jonathan Alukwu, Pascal Durugbor, Godwin Odibo, Wisdom Fernando, and Rivio Anyemwenre.

The mass exodus comes as a shock to fans of the team, who had expected Biffo to lead a rebuild after the club’s relegation from the NPFL. Instead, the coach has paid the price for his inability to salvage the team’s season.

With the off-season well underway, Sporting Lagos will be looking to rebuild and refocus for a successful campaign in the NNL. The club’s fans will be eagerly awaiting news of the new head coach appointment and the subsequent signings to bolster the squad.
