Enugu State PDP Elects New Executive Committee
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Nigeria, has successfully held a state congress to elect a new 39-member State Executive Committee. Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, a former Commissioner for Housing in the state, was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the PDP Enugu State chapter.
The elections were conducted by the six-man PDP Enugu State Congress Electoral Committee led by Toni Iyoha. The new Executive Committee has Barr. Stephen Oruruo as Deputy Chairman, Chukwudi Nnadozie as Secretary, and Patrick Okoh as Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Dr. Chukwunweike, pledged to lead the party on the path of loyalty, equity, and fairness, with a focus on retaining the party’s hold on the state. He noted that the first task of the new executive would be to ensure that the party retains the chairmanship of the 17 local government councils of the state in the forthcoming council election.
Dr. Chukwunweike also emphasized that the party would work hard to retain all the councils, saying, "We will work hard to ensure that we continue to retain 17 out of the 17 councils."
The newly elected Woman Leader, Hon. Peace Patrick, promised to ensure that women are given their due in the party’s leadership and decision-making processes. She vowed to rally women to support the government and vision of Governor Peter Mbah.
Earlier, the outgone Chairman, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, thanked party leaders and members for their support, promising to continue working hard for the party’s success.
The state congress was attended by a large turnout of party stalwarts and members.
