Ebonyi State Governor Announces N70,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants
The government of Ebonyi State, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage for its civil servants. As of September, employees of the state government will be earning a minimum of N70,000 (approximately $195 USD).
Governor Nwifuru made the announcement on Saturday during the grand finale of the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival. He stressed that the increase is part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its civil servants.
However, in a separate statement, the governor criticized the lack of proper handling of government projects awarded to prominent leaders in the state, specifically citing the housing estates at Izo autonomous community in the Ishielu Local Government Area. He demanded that the Commissioner for Housing ensure that the houses are painted immediately.
The governor also urged residents of the state to report any government projects being delayed by contractors, vowing to take prompt action to resolve the issues.
This announcement is likely to be welcomed by civil servants in the state, who will receive a significant pay increase. The government’s decision demonstrates its commitment to supporting its employees and their families.
