PDP Chieftain Warns Against Loss of Rivers State Governor Fubara
In a recent interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Umar Sani, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cautioned the party against allowing Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State to defect. Sani, who served as Senior Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, emphasized that the PDP cannot afford to lose Fubara to another party.
The warning comes amidst an ongoing crisis between Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The two have been at odds over the control of Rivers State’s political structure. The rift has already affected the state House of Assembly, resulting in the emergence of factions among lawmakers loyal to the duo.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the crisis has persisted. Sani stressed that if Fubara feels he is not in charge and cannot run the party’s affairs, he will naturally seek another platform. This, according to Sani, would be catastrophic for the PDP.
However, Sani welcomed the decision of the PDP Governors Forum in Jalingo and the leadership provided by Bala Mohammed, which he believes is in line with the party’s thinking.
With the PDP already reeling from internal conflicts and leadership challenges, Sani’s warning serves as a stark reminder of the party’s vulnerability. As the party navigates this precarious situation, it remains to be seen whether Fubara will remain a member of the PDP or defect to another party, potentially causing further destabilization.
