The North‑West zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced on Sunday that recent defections of notable politicians from opposition parties and the reconciliation of aggrieved party stakeholders signal an imminent victory for its standard‑bearer, Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 presidential poll. The statement, issued in Abuja by Salihu Lukman, the National Vice Chairman of the APC (North‑West), praised the party for unifying the seven states of the region—Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi—through a series of rallies.

Lukman highlighted Tinubu’s recent rally in Kebbi, where the candidate pledged to boost agriculture and revive the moribund Argungu fishing festival. He noted that party leaders and candidates in the bloc’s largest voting area have set aside internal differences and challenges to work toward Tinubu’s success. Emphasising the strategic importance of the North‑West, Lukman reminded that historically any presidential candidate who wins this region goes on to become president.

The Kaduna politician expressed confidence that the large defections to the APC—including the Labour Party’s Jigawa governorship candidate and serving commissioners from the PDP government in Sokoto State—will work in the party’s favour. “The ability of our party leaders to reconcile and forge a united front in the North‑West Zone is largely responsible for the successful rallies in all seven states,” he said. “We also wish to acknowledge the successful campaign rallies and activities of all our candidates.”

Lukman added, “We believe the significant defections from other opposition parties to the APC, such as the Jigawa governorship candidate of the Labour Party and the serving commissioners in Sokoto, are clear signposts of victory for the APC in the North‑West for our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the February 25 election, as well as for all our National Assembly candidates. This also signals victory in the governorship and state assembly elections across the seven states. We are confident that, with Allah’s blessing, all seven North‑West states, including Sokoto, will be APC states from May 29.”

Concluding, Lukman asserted, “Without doubt, the APC North‑West presidential rally has affirmed that the North‑West is APC and APC is the North‑West. Nigerians should remember that Nigerian political history shows every presidential candidate who wins the North‑West votes also wins the presidency.”
