Nigeria’s Deputy Governor Slams APC’s "Change" Mantra, Urges Nigerians to Rally Behind PDP
In a recent courtesy visit to the Non-Working Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta State Executive Committee, Nigeria’s Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, expressed his disappointment at Nigerians for falling prey to the "razzmatazz" of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) "change" mantra. According to Onyeme, Nigerians have learned the hard way by voting for the APC, and it’s time for them to work with the PDP to redeem the country.
Onyeme made the claims on Friday in Asaba, highlighting the progressive trend the PDP had led the nation under, with fuel pump prices at N87 per litre. He noted that during this period, Nigerians enjoyed democratic freedom, and people were free to complain and protest without fear of persecution.
The Deputy Governor urged Nigerians not to despair but to work with the PDP to redeem the country, saying, "Our dear members of the PDP, don’t get tired whether in office or out of office, be strong and remain loyal to the party. You will not know the benefits of the PDP until you are not there in the party, remember that Nigeria and Nigerians need you."
Onyeme also drew attention to the fuel price crisis, saying that the APC-led government had reduced the price to N85 per litre during the PDP’s tenure, but today, Nigerians are tired of grumbling about fuel prices and the freedom to protest is no longer there. He expressed hope that the situation would improve and called on Nigerians to rally behind the PDP to redeem the country.
The Deputy Governor also assured those not given assignments that he would reach out to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure they continue rendering services to Deltans. Earlier, the Chairman of the non-working members of the PDP State Exco, Morgan Ogapha, who spoke through the Assistant Legal Adviser of the party, Hessington Okolo, reaffirmed their commitment to serving the party and Deltans, calling for political patronage for those not re-elected to the PDP executive council.
Onyeme’s comments have sparked debate among Nigerians, with some calling for a return to the PDP’s leadership and others defending the APC’s actions. As the country navigates its current challenges, it remains to be seen whether Nigerians will heed the Deputy Governor’s call to rally behind the PDP.
