Election Focus: PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Urges Party Supporters to Shun Violence

In a bid to win the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo, Festus Akingbaso, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate, has called on the people to eschew violence before, during, and after the election. Akingbaso made the appeal while addressing the residents of the Idanre community in Idanre Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The PDP candidate, a member of the House of Representatives, assured the people that the party would win the forthcoming governorship poll in Idanre and other local governments in the state, but urged them to remain peaceful. "APC is threatening us that we are not as financially buoyant as them. But we have God. When they give you money, take their money and vote for PDP," Akingbaso said, urging the people to respect each other’s rights during the election.

Akingbaso also appealed to the youths not to fight, emphasizing the need to vote peacefully. "Idanre has never been a deputy governor before now. This is the first time. We will do it. We will face them and we will win them," he said.

The PDP candidate, Agboola Ajayi, who received a warm welcome from party leaders and residents, appreciated the people for their continued support and urged them to deliver for the party on November 16. He noted that no reasonable person should contemplate voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the level of hardship being experienced in the country.

The PDP Local Government Campaign Council was inaugurated during the visit, and the chairman, Eddy Olafeso, urged the committee members to work assiduously to deliver the local government for PDP.

As the elections approach, Akingbaso’s call for peace and unity is a refreshing departure from the usual tension and violence that often precede elections in Nigeria. It remains to be seen whether the PDP will be able to capitalize on this momentum and win over voters in the upcoming governorship poll.
