Unity Fabric Competition Winner Receives N25 Million Prize
In a ceremony held at the State House in Abuja, Nigeria, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu presented a N25 million prize to Bamidele Mofiyinfoluwa, the winner of the #OneNigeria Unity Fabric competition. The competition aimed to foster creativity, enhance unity and love, and support local enterprises to boost the nation’s economy.
Mrs. Tinubu announced that the selected best fabric would be used officially on October 1, during the nation’s independence celebration. The fabric will be mass-produced by two local manufacturers, making it accessible to all Nigerians. The goal is to stimulate local industries, create jobs, and boost the economy.
The First Lady was inspired by the concept of unity fabric during her visit to Zimbabwe in 2023, where she discovered the National Fabric concept that unifies the nation by infusing diverse cultures and unity as a people. The project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on broader objectives of national cohesiveness and economic development through creativity.
The competition received 111 entries from Nigerians across the country and in the Diaspora. The selection process was rigorous, and the best design was selected by expert judges. Five finalists, including the winner, were present at the event, and the First Lady extended her gratitude to all who participated.
Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, also spoke at the event, emphasizing that the national unity fabric would promote unity and commerce. Mofiyinfoluwa, the winner, expressed her gratitude for the prize and promised to use her designs to promote love and unity, as well as invest the cash prize in her textile business.
The First Lady encouraged the youths to be resilient in the face of the current situation in the country and to continue pursuing their passions. The #OneNigeria Unity Fabric competition is a testament to the power of creativity and unity, and its impact will be felt across the nation.
