Nigerian Ruling Party Urges Citizens to Ignore Unverified Edo Governorship Election Figures

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria has cautioned the public to disregard social media reports regarding the Edo governorship election figures, saying they are not accurate representations of the current results being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, revealed this in a statement released in Abuja, pointing out that fake figures were being spread online to spark panic among the population.

According to Morka, the APC has acknowledged that some reports are circulating on social media, propagated by political parties, citing bogus vote tallies from the ongoing Edo State Gubernatorial Election.

The party urges the public to ignore these "bogus and highly speculative reports" and wait for INEC’s official conclusion of the election process before making any announcements.

For now, INEC continues to collate results at the ward level, a process that has yet to be concluded. In contrast, Local Government level collation has yet to start in most LGAs across the state, according to the party.

In adhering to the Electoral Act, INEC is solely responsible for collecting results at the Ward, Local Government, and State levels and declaring the outcome of the election.

Notably, the APC is in the lead, but they decline to pre-empt the final outcome of the election, citing the importance of allowing INEC to do its job. The public is asked to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to misinformation.
