Nigerian President Congratulates Edo Governorship Winner, Urges Unity and Service
President Bola Tinubu has extended congratulations to Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s Edo governorship election, following his victory at the polls. Okpebholo was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, having secured the highest number of votes in the election.
In a statement, Tinubu praised APC national leaders, Edo leaders, and party governors for their hard work in achieving the victory. He commended the people of Edo for their support for the ruling party and its progressive ideals, which he believes will lead to economic re-engineering and improved living standards for Nigerians.
The president also urged Okpebholo not to gloat over his victory, but to see it as a call to service. He encouraged the winner to reach out to his political rivals and unite the people of Edo to ensure the state’s development.
In addition, Tinubu praised other candidates who participated in the election for their contributions to advancing Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that the peaceful conduct of the election, which was free of major incidents, has showcased the country’s maturing democracy after 25 years.
The president commended INEC and security agencies for their efforts in conducting a successful, peaceful, and largely hitch-free election. He reiterated the commission’s commitment to organizing free and fair elections in the country.
Tinubu’s message of unity and service is a clear indication of his desire to see a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria, where all citizens can enjoy the fruits of democracy. As the country moves forward, it is essential for leaders to prioritize the interests of the people and work towards the betterment of the nation.
