Nigeria Woos Global Investors with Creative Economy Ambitions
Against the backdrop of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, secured a $200 million financing facility for the country’s creative industry from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The significant investment marks a crucial milestone in Nigeria’s Destination 2030 initiative, aimed at establishing the country as a global leader in arts and culture, and a key player in the global creative economy by 2030.
Led by Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of Afreximbank, the partnership will support new initiatives of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, providing a foundation for sustainable economic growth and positioning Africa as a global cultural leader.
"Hannatu Musawa highlights Afreximbank’s commitment to Nigeria’s creative industry, noting that the facility will support new initiatives under the Ministry of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy," Oramah declared.
The Destination 2030 event, organized by the Ministry, celebrated Nigeria’s vibrant artistic heritage and culinary excellence, as well as its increasing influence on the global creative economy.
The event featured a series of captivating performances, acaptivating art exhibition that paid homage to Nigeria’s legacy of artistic innovation and culinary experiences that spotlighted Nigeria’s diverse and flavorful cuisine.
In her keynote address, Minister Musawa outlined Nigeria’s ambitious plans for its creative economy and emphasized the critical role global partnerships play in driving their vision forward.
"We strive to create two million jobs and contribute $100 billion to the national GDP to fully realize this vision," said Musawa.
As a key component of the destination 2030 initiative is Nigeria’s goal to position itself as a global "soft power" leader. President Bola Tinubu has set key performance indicators and deliverables for this vision, including positioning Nigeria as a top cultural influencer and improving the country’s global brand perception.
