In a grand ceremony marked by jubilation and optimism, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially launched the campaign for the Plateau South Senatorial District Local Government elections. The Governor emphasized that the upcoming polls will be a crucial step towards unlocking the much-needed development of rural communities in the state.
Mutfwang, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reiterated the strong bond between the party and the people of Plateau State. He expressed his gratitude to the Southern Zone for their overwhelming support in the 2023 elections and urged them to replicate that support in the upcoming local government polls scheduled for October 9, 2024.
The Governor outlined his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the Southern Senatorial Zone, including the approval of a substantial amount of money for the provision of electricity, potable water supply, and a durable road network. He also reassured the citizenry of his commitment to running an all-inclusive government, where individuals who contested various positions and were unsuccessful would not be left out.
In his remarks, the PDP Zonal Vice Chairman, North Central Zone, Dakas Shan, expressed confidence that Plateau South remains a stronghold of the PDP, predicting a sweeping victory in both the Chairmanship and Councilorship seats across the 17 local government areas.
The Governor also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martin Sheldas III, the Long Gamai of the Gamai Nation and Chairman of the Shendam Traditional Council, expressing his gratitude for the traditional ruler’s support during the 2023 elections and thanking God for his healing and recovery.
As the elections approach, Governor Mutfwang pledged to restore the era of transparent elections in the state, with the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) poised to conduct free, fair, and credible polls. He presented flags to all the PDP Chairmanship candidates in the zone, urging them to work together to bring about positive change in the district.
The Governor’s message resonated with the people of Plateau South, who are eager to see tangible democratic dividends in their district. With the campaign underway, it remains to be seen whether the PDP will maintain its stronghold in the region and deliver on its promises.
