Ekiti PDP Vows to Displace Ruling Party from Power

In a bold move, the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to displace the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power, despite the latter’s dominance in the region. The party’s chairman, Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase, made the declaration in a recent interview with journalists.

According to Oguntuwase, the PDP is prioritizing rebuilding and repositioning itself for victory, rather than investing energy in suspending party chieftain and former Governor Ayodele Fayose, who has publicly backed the APC. Fayose had expressed satisfaction with the performance of the APC’s Governor Abiodun Oyebanji and vowed to support him in the next election.

Oguntuwase emphasized that the PDP is working on strategies to win future elections without relying on Fayose, saying, "There are many other things that PDP takes more seriously than the issue of the conduct of Fayose. What is important to us is that we must strategise on winning without him because he has said he would not be for us."

He also dismissed allegations that party loyalists were sidelined in the composition of the state caretaker committee, set up by the PDP National Working Committee. Oguntuwase argued that the caretaker committee was established to ensure the party’s victory in future elections, adding that the leaders appointed are committed to the rebuilding of the party.

The PDP chieftain praised the leadership of Dare Adeleke, who heads the party’s caretaker committee, saying, "Having Adeleke as the caretaker committee chairman in Ekiti is encouraging those of us who are committed to the rebuilding of our party."

The party’s determination to displace the APC from power is likely to escalate the political drama in Ekiti, with the APC already confident of retaining its grip on the state. However, the PDP’s determination to win future elections, without relying on Fayose, signals a significant shift in its strategy and suggests that the party is determined to revamp its image and gain a foothold in the region.
