Anambra Governor Not Declaring Second Term Yet, Says Commissioner
The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, has set the record straight regarding Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s plans for a second term. In a recent interview, Mefor clarified that Soludo has not declared his intention to contest for a second term, contrary to ongoing speculation.
According to Mefor, Soludo is too busy focusing on implementing policies to develop the state to consider running for re-election. However, Mefor revealed that he, along with others, will persuade Soludo to run if his sterling performance is taken into account. “Soludo has shown himself to be what Anambra people want,” Mefor said. “All the indices favour Soludo. He is from Anambra South, and the zoning formula favours him.”
Mefor emphasized that Soludo has the right to contest for a second term, citing his past successes against opponents who will likely run against him again. “Why do you think that he will not win them again, now that he has evidence of what he has done for Anambra people?” Mefor asked. “Soludo has verifiable, tangible achievements in Anambra, and all he needs to do is show Anambra people his scorecard to get re-elected for a second term.”
Soludo’s potential opponents, Mefor noted, are the same individuals who lost to him in the past. “Those who are saying that they will contest against him are the same people who contested against him when he was not a governor and he won them,” Mefor pointed out.
While Soludo has not officially announced his intention to run for a second term, Mefor’s statements suggest that the governor’s chances of re-election are strong. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Soludo will indeed contest for a second term, but for now, it appears that the tide is in his favour.
