Eritrea and Egypt Strengthen Ties, Pledge to Uphold International Law

In a significant development, the Presidents of Eritrea and Egypt, Isaias Afwerki and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, respectively, met in Asmara, Eritrea, on October 10, 2024, to discuss bilateral relations, regional, and international issues. The two leaders emphasized the importance of upholding international law as the foundation for regional stability and cooperation.

The meeting resulted in a series of agreements, with the two countries committing to respect the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all countries in the region. They also rejected interference in the internal affairs of other countries, regardless of the pretext or justification. The leaders acknowledged the need for coordination of joint efforts to achieve regional stability and to create a favorable climate for joint and sustainable development.

The two countries also agreed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in various fields, including politics, to achieve the aspirations of their peoples towards development and prosperity. To achieve this, they will establish a Political Consultation Committee at the level of Foreign Ministers, which will meet periodically to enhance cooperation and coordination in all fields of common interest.

The meeting between the two leaders is a significant step towards strengthening ties between Eritrea and Egypt, and demonstrates their commitment to upholding international law and promoting regional stability.
