The Labour Party in Kano State has denounced its former governorship candidate, Bashir Bashir, as an impostor who never truly belonged to the party after his defection to the All Progressives Congress. Kano State Labour Party Chairman Mohammed Abdullahi made the remarks on Monday while briefing journalists on recent developments.

“We are aware of deceptive, pretentious, fake and misleading actions by some forces who are not genuine party members and who are bent on shattering the Labour Party’s dream of victory at the polls,” Abdullahi said. He added that the party is aware of a plot by an individual who falsely claimed the Labour Party was losing its grip and is trying to persuade genuine party candidates to join him. “His dream is a dead dream,” the chairman asserted.

Abdullahi emphasized that everyone has the fundamental right to choose and belong to any political party, but he was quick to point out that the impostor in question was never a Labour Party member. “He cannot leave a house he never inhabited,” he said, noting that Bashir was not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the authentic governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Kano State. “It is my name that appears on the INEC list of governorship candidates for our party,” Abdullahi added.

The chairman warned that the party would not tolerate unpatriotic individuals who trade in its name, stressing that the Labour Party has been nurtured and consolidated in Kano State through hard work. He reaffirmed the commitment of genuine party members to fully support the Obi/Datti movement in 2023, stating that anyone who wishes to leave may do so as a democratic right.
