Napoli fans adore Victor Osimhen so much that they are queuing not only for his shirt but also for replicas of his protective mask outside the Stadio Maradona, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The Nigerian international is Serie A’s leading scorer, with 17 goals in 18 matches, including eight in his last six appearances. He added another goal in Sunday’s 3‑0 win over Cremonese, and supporters lined up to buy copies of the mask he has worn for more than a year after a cheekbone injury sustained against Inter in November 2021.
Stalls outside the stadium sold the mask replicas, and hundreds of fans were seen queuing before the match with Cremonese. The newspaper describes Osimhen as the “king of Naples,” with the Partenopei dreaming of their first league title in over 30 years. Napoli now top Serie A with 59 points after 22 games, having lost only once—to second‑place Inter Milan—making a first league triumph after three decades look increasingly likely.
The 24‑year‑old continues to set and equal records in Italy while maintaining his blistering form. On Sunday, his second goal in the 3‑0 victory made him only the second player in Napoli’s history to score in six consecutive matches, after Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín achieved the feat in the 2015/16 season. After going goalless in Napoli’s 1‑0 defeat to Inter in January, the Super Eagles striker has since found the net against Sampdoria, Juventus, Salernitana, AS Roma, Spezia Calcio and Cremonese, scoring eight goals in total.
