University of Ilorin Set to Graduate 12,042 Students in 39th Convocation Ceremony
A significant milestone is being achieved at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, as 12,042 students from the 2022/2023 academic session are set to be declared graduates during the institution’s convocation ceremonies taking place this week. This momentous occasion marks the 39th convocation ceremony of the prestigious university.
The events commenced on Friday and will conclude with the convocations on Monday and Tuesday. During a news conference on Thursday in Ilorin, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, revealed the impressive numbers. According to Egbewole, the First Degree/Diploma category consists of 256 students graduating with First Class honors, 3,842 with Second Class (Upper Division), 6,178 with Second Class (Lower Division), 1,299 with Third Class, and 62 with Pass.
Additionally, the convocation ceremonies will include 124 MBBS graduands, 64 Nursing graduands, 35 Optometry graduands, and 30 Veterinary Medicine graduands. Pharmacy and Physiotherapy also saw notable achievements, with 18 graduands earning Distinction and 85 graduands with Pass in Pharmacy, as well as one Distinction and 32 Pass in Physiotherapy.
The Vice-Chancellor further highlighted the university’s achievements in higher degrees, with 1,875 awards to be conferred during the convocation. This includes 92 Post-Graduate Diplomas (PGDs), 1,280 Masters from various faculties, 179 Professional Masters, one M.Phil, and 323 Ph.Ds.
Egbewole also celebrated the university’s strides in research and innovation, despite facing present economic challenges. He mentioned that the university was ranked sixth by ‘The Times Higher Education’ and third by ‘SciVal Scopus’ in Nigeria for 2025. He emphasized the university’s commitment to striving for excellence and promoting a culture of learning and character among students.
