Nigerian Government Receives Toxicologist Report on Late Singer Mohbad, Trial to Commence Soon
The Lagos State government has announced that the toxicologist report on the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad, is now available. This significant development was revealed by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro SAN, during a press conference held at the Ministry of Justice Conference Room in Ikeja on October 21, 2024. The event marked Pedro’s first year in office, and he addressed concerns regarding the investigation into Mohbad’s death. While discussing the government’s plan to prosecute those responsible for the singer’s demise, Pedro attributed the delay in the case to an extended investigation process.
According to Pedro, the lengthy investigation involved various procedures, including forensic analysis and toxicology, aimed at gathering irrefutable evidence for a successful conviction. He explained that these steps are essential in presenting a strong case before the courts. The Attorney General confirmed that the toxicologist report has been received from the United States, and the autopsy is currently with the Lagos State Pathologist and the Coroner magistrate.
However, Pedro noted that the case has been held up by Mohbad’s family, who have expressed their intention to conduct an independent autopsy. Despite this development, the government is committed to proceeding with the trial, which is expected to commence soon. In his words, “the trial will soon commence, and the court will do justice in the matter.” With the release of the toxicologist report, the case against those responsible for Mohbad’s death is expected to gain momentum, bringing closure to the singer’s family and fans.
This latest update comes as a significant step forward in the quest for justice for Mohbad, whose untimely death sent shockwaves across Nigeria and the music industry. As the trial approaches, all eyes will be on the Lagos State government to ensure that justice is served and accountability is upheld.
