The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) confirmed on Tuesday that it has achieved more than 72 percent growth since June 2022, with collections rising from N3.2 billion to over N5.5 billion as of January 2023. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Ahmed Dangana made the disclosure to reporters during the company’s ongoing retreat in Kano. He noted that in June of the previous year the company recorded a 42 percent market remittance, which had increased to over 58 percent by January. “We can do better,” Dangana said, adding that the target is to raise market remittance to over 70 percent by the end of 2023.

The focus, according to Dangana, is on improving power supply. He highlighted recent initiatives, including the repair of about 250 transformers across the franchise area in recent months. “Within the next 90 days we will fix all transformers in our network and keep them running for our customers,” he said, emphasizing the goal of more reliable service and reduced outages. Looking ahead, Dangana outlined an investment plan of over N18 billion for the next 18 months, funded through various sources, to further enhance the network and deliver better services to customers.

The CEO also assured that KEDCO will continue its efforts from the past six months, focusing on fairer billing. He stressed that customers will be billed only for the energy they actually consume, a result of expanded metering and a more economic dispatch approach. Chief Commercial Officer Abubakar Yusuf added that KEDCO has installed over 80,000 meters so far and will continue installing more under the mass‑metering programme. He pledged that the sales team will become more responsive to customer complaints and directed all staff to prioritize the customer above all other considerations when providing service.
